Interest, and Conceptual Change In Science Education
Synopsis
ESTA AST2 is about interest and conceptual change in science education. Interest is a multidimensional construct whose operational definition requires emotional, cognitive, and related value [value attributed to the object of interest] dimensions (Hidi, 2006; Hidi & Renninger 2006; Hidi, Renninger, & Krapp, 2004; Krapp, 2007). It incorporates elements such as engagement, attention, motivation, and curiosity. Two types of student interest play a role in their learning: situational, and individual or personal. Moreover, this training discussed the importance of conceptual change as part of the teaching and learning processes. According to Kuhn T.S., conceptual change is a process that changes or replaces an existing conception with a new concept. It could be an idea, a belief, or a way of thinking, and conceptual change can be gradual, abrupt, and can take various forms.
