Synopsis

Lesson Designs guide the teaching and learning process. Utilizing design and development research, the study crafted STEAM Lesson Exemplars for the four clusters (Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Agri/Fisheries, Technology and Engineering, and Mathematics) of Philippine Higher STEAM Education. The study purposely chose 113 STEAM educators from initially-identified (through stratified and random sampling) state universities and privately-managed colleges and universities in the entire archipelago. Initial processes of the study included crafting the training design for the participants and the Instructional Design for Lesson Exemplar influenced and directed by the Philippine STEAM Education (PSE) Models (PSE Validated, Pedagogy, Assessment, and Technology Integration), and TPACK framework for Philippine STEAM education. The organizing team clustered the participants according to STEAM disciplines. Each cluster (Physical Science, Biological Science with Agri/Fisheries, Technology and Engineering, Mathematics), facilitated by the members of the core team, formed groups of five wherein each group developed a Lesson Exemplar on one topic in their respective discipline. The Lesson Exemplars underwent a two-tier content validation; 1) two rounds of peer review within their respective clusters, and panel critiquing and presentation. Pilot run of the Exemplars in the respective institutions of the participants determined the viability and effectiveness of the exemplars in developing Philippine STEAM Education outcomes who are envisioned as critical thinkers, productive citizens and innovative learners. The study developed a number of Lesson Exemplars in each of the clusters as: five for Physical Sciences cluster, seven for Biological Science and Agri/Fisheries cluster, four for Technology and Engineering cluster, and six for Mathematics cluster. As envisioned, collaborative planning and development of these lesson guide may well benefit the Philippine STEAM Education, which could help STEAM educators become Teachers 4.0 to train the Generation z learners and help craft 21st century-skilled learners, innovative STEAM professionals, and productive Filipino citizens.
