Science (Physics & Chemistry) Lesson Exemplar (The Law of Thermodynamics)
Synopsis
This lesson exemplar exudes a metadisciplinary approach of teaching introductory concepts of the laws of thermodynamics in the precepts of physics and chemistry. This is intended for the BSE Science Majors who are considered to be digital 21st Century learners. This lesson exemplar will also prepare the target audience to become future science educators. The lesson will be delivered using pedagogies anchored on constructionism and neurocognitive – based teaching model where the students will create their own meanings of their experiences and a concrete understanding of the concepts. Further, this will use problem – based learning, inquiry and laboratory method to augment in the technology integration and allowing students to organize their thoughts or looking for new information. Using these approaches to learning, it will be able to support the STEAM Pedagogical Model, which emphasizes on mentoring and monitoring which will eventually allow the teacher to facilitate learning. In this lesson exemplar, technologies will be utilized from the motivation, lesson development and in the assessment part. Both analog and digital instructional technologies will be used such as the chalkboard, powerpoint presentation, virtual laboratory, video clips and interactive online platforms. This will exhibit teacher’s technological knowledge in integrating technologies into the lesson structure and exemplifying skills in delivering a content – based lesson. This lesson exemplar uses authentic assessment strategies that will allow students application of learning into real – life situations, enabling the students with the different modalities to ensure quality learning.
